The 9th CMAS (World Underwater Federation) Sea World Championships of underwater photography was held in Marseille, France in August/September 2002. The Federation of Underwater Activities Malta (FUAM), affiliate of CMAS and Malta Olympic Committee, sponsored a Maltese team in this biannual event to compete with the very best in the world. The Maltese team consisting of underwater photographer, Mr Simon Theuma and assistant Mr Michael Spiteri successfully represented the Federation and Malta in the World Championships after they placed a respectable 23rd position from a total of 46 competitors from 30 countries.
The Maltese team are also the first Maltese sport divers to qualify for CMAS underwater photography instructor certification after attending a specialized course prior to the championships. The FUAM is now capable of organizing specialized underwater photography courses. The Federation would like to thank AIRMALTA, Atlam Sub Aqua Club and Fotovision for their support.
FUAM has always been committed to this sport of underwater photography and will be organizing the 10th Blue Dolphin of Malta International Underwater Photographic competition between the 12th and 17th November 2002. For further details visit our website www.fuam.org or email at fuam@digigate.net
